ESC 2014 - Intervista a SebAlter

SebAlter (al secolo Sebastiano Pau-Lessi), rappresenterà la Svizzera all’Eurovision Song Contest 2014 di Copenaghen. Quest’oggi abbiamo il pacere di ospitarlo per una breve intervista.Ciao SebAlter ! Come stai e come ti senti dopo aver vinto la finale nazionale svizzera?

Grazie, sto bene! Da un lato mi sento positivamente sopraffatto e soddisfatto da un risultato musicale che aspettavo da lungo tempo. Dall’altra parte c’è un senso di responsabilità e di serio impegno che è presente: rappresenterò il mio paese, e questo è molto importante.

Puoi dirci qualcosa sulla sera del 1° febbraio? C’è stato un momento in cui ti sei reso conto che avresti vinto o è stata una sorpresa?

Sapevo che avevo buone possibilità, ma sapevo anche che non ero il favorito. In fin dei conti devo ammettere che la vittoria è arrivata abbastanza inaspettata, anche se ho sempre saputo di avere le potenzialità e le qualità necessarie.

Qual è il tuo background musicale? Come è nato il tuo amore per la musica folk?

Suono il violino da quando avevo 6 anni. Ho suonato musica classica per molti anni, poi sono passato alla musica rock (suonando sia il basso elettrico che la chitarra) fino a quando ho scoperto la musica folk irlandese, di cui mi sono innamorato.

Ci puoi parlare della tua canzone, Hunter of stars? Verrà riarrangiata, prima di maggio?

La canzone ha preso forma durante un viaggio negli Stati Uniti la scorsa estate. Ritornato in Svizzera, l’ho registrata. Durante le prossime settimane continuerò certamente a lavorare sulla canzone. “Hunter of stars” ha fondamentalmente una chiave principale di lettura: c’è sempre uno scontro tra la fiducia e la non fiducia in me stesso quando si tratta di flirtare e di amare.

Chi ci sarà con te sul palco a Copenaghen?

Eseguirò “Hunter of stars” a Copenaghen con gli amici con cui suono abitualmente.

Cosa ne pensi della nostro rappresentante Emma e della sua canzone La mia città?

Emma è Emma. Mi piace molto. Ha “grinta” e personalità. E mi piace il genere di musica che fa , energico e talvolta disperato… bello!

Bene… nel 2009 un ragazzo con il suo violino ha vinto l’Eurovision Song Contest. Tu cosa ti aspetti da questa esperienza?

Alexander Rybak… ha scritto una canzone davvero fantastica. Il mio obiettivo concreto è quello di raggiungere la finale per il mio paese. Dal punto di vista più personale, spero di promuovere la mia musica, sperando che agli europei piaccia.

Hello SebAlter! How are you and how do you feel after winning the national final in Switzerland?

Thank you, Im fine! On one hand I feel positively overwhelmed and satisfied by a musical achievement I have been longing for long time. On the other hand there is a feeling of responsibility and serious commitment that is present: I am going to represent my country, and that is very important.

Can you tell us something about the evening of February the 1st? Was there a moment when you realize you could win or was it a surprise?

I knew that my chances were good, but I also knew I was not the favourite. At the end of the day, I must admit that the victory came quite unexpected, although I always knew I had the potential and the necessary qualities.

What is your musical backgorund? How was born your love for folk music?

I have been playing violin since age 6. I played classical music for many years, then I shifted to rock music (playing both electric bass and guitar) until I discovered the Irish folk music, which I fell in love with.

Can you talk about your song, “Hunter Of Stars”? Will there be a revamp, before May?

The song took shape during a trip in the USA last summer. Back in Switzerland, I recorded it. During the next weeks I will certainly continue working on the song. “Hunter Of Stars” has basically one main key of interpretation: There is always a clash between confidence and non-confidence in myself when it comes to flirt and love.

Who will be with you on stage in Copenaghen?

I will perform “Hunter Of Stars” in Copenhagen with friends I am used to playing normally.

What do you think about our entry, Emma and her song “La mia città”?

Emma is Emma. I really like her. She has “grinta” and personality. And I like the kind of music she makes, energetic and sometimes desperate…nice!

Well… in 2009 a boy with his violin won the Eurovision Song Contest. What do you expect from this experience?

Alexander Rybak…he wrote a fantastic song indeed. My concrete goal is to reach the final for my country. From a more personal perspective, I hope to promote my music, hoping that European people will like it.
